Anjana Pillai, MD, discusses the importance of multidisciplinary discussion in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Anjana Pillai, MD, associate professor of medicine, medical director, Liver Tumor Program, co-director, Living Donor Liver Transplant Program, director, Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program, University of Chicago Medicine, discusses the importance of multidisciplinary discussion in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

HCC comprises a wide range of research topics, such as surveillance, epidemiology, and biomarker development, says Pillai. As the field is rapidly evolving, the upcoming 2021 HCC-TAG virtual conference will spotlight the need for multidisciplinary care in HCC, Pillai explains. Presentations during the meeting will spotlight key nuances to treating patients with HCC across a spectrum of specialties, Pillai says. Ultimately, the goal of the conference is to shed light on the optimal way to deliver care to patients with HCC and improve outcomes, concludes Pillai.
