OncLive  editorial, marketing teams will share news about Sylvester Center.

OncLive®â€¯ has added the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to its Strategic Alliance Partnership program, the company announced today.  Under the new partnership, OncLive’s editorial and marketing teams will share news about research and other breakthroughs in cancer care coming from the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Researchers at Sylvester recently developed a new technique for growing ovarian cancer cells that mimic the cells in the original tumor in long-term cultures, enabling physicians to more precisely target therapies for patients. Neurosurgeons at the center are also among the first in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to use the NICO BrainPath system to remove tumors, especially deeply embedded ones, using incisions as small as a dime.

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only four cancer centers recognized by the state of Florida as a Cancer Center of Excellence.

“This combination of statewide recognition for excellence and the use of innovative technologies for patient care keeps the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the forefront of cancer care and research,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, part of the Plainsboro, N.J.-based Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc. (MJH) family of businesses. “We’re certain the center will continue to provide exciting news, and we’re excited to share that news with our customers.”

The center was the recent recipient of $3.6 million from the Pap Corps, a 21,000 all-volunteer fundraising organization dedicated to supporting cancer research. The donation is earmarked to help the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center become a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.

“Our research, our educational efforts and our dedication to patients are helping transform cancer care in South Florida and beyond,” said Director Stephen D. Nimer, M.D. “Our partnership with OncLive will help us share the news about the potentially life-saving advances at the center.”

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center joins more than 50 other leading cancer centers, nursing schools and physician groups around the country in partnering with OncLive.

“The Strategic Alliance Partnership program serves everyone committed to fighting cancer. When we work together and share our knowledge broadly, we are better armed to improve our efforts to overcome this devastating disease,” Hennessy added.
