Published: Monday, Nov 11, 2013

Vincent T. DeVita, Jr, MD, Lymphoma: Giant of Cancer Care, Yale Cancer Center, discusses the use of chemotherapy for patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

It was an exciting time when a cure for Hodgkin's lymphoma was discovered, DeVita says. At first, it was assumed that the only use for chemotherapy in this space was palliation and the only debate was whether or not to take this approach. It was exciting to prove that one could cure a patient with advanced disease with chemotherapy. Eventually, this discovery led to the use of chemotherapy in post-operative patients with breast cancer.
