One of the most gratifying aspects of working in the oncology information field is the opportunity we have to interact with the scientists and clinicians who are seeking to advance the care of patients with cancer.

We never cease to be amazed by the dedication and ingenuity that has resulted in so many improvements in patient care over the years. So many times, the development of a new therapeutic or surgical approach can be attributed to a hard-working researcher patiently and persistently pursuing a hunch or a hypothesis, often in the face of doubt and resistance.

Three years ago, the Intellisphere Oncology Specialty Group decided to recognize the contributions of these researchers and thought leaders by launching the Giants of Cancer Care® awards program. Since then, awareness of the program has grown and, along with it, our own sense of mission in honoring these leaders in the field.

Today, we feel privileged to introduce the 2015 winners of the Giants of Cancer Care awards. Within the pages of this issue, you will find a glimpse of the 12 remarkable people who make up this year’s class. The honorees were chosen by the esteemed members of an advisory board who considered nominations from people throughout the oncology community.

This year’s Giants are a dynamic mix of people who traveled different personal and career paths to make significant contributions to the field. The award categories include specific tumor types and more general areas such as Community Outreach/Education and Scientific Advances.

In the coming months, we will offer more detailed profiles of the award winners. We believe their stories are instructive—and inspiring. We know of few people whose lives have not been touched by cancer, be it a close family member, a more distant relative, or a friend who has grappled with the disease, making the achievements we recognize with these awards that much more poignant.

We are pleased to be able to recognize the oncology leaders who have helped make the lifesaving changes that have so improved the standard of care and the lives of countless patients.

Congratulations to all the winners. We hope you share our joy in bringing their stories to you. And, as always, we thank you for reading.
