Dr. Pecora on the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial

Andrew L. Pecora, MD, FACP, CPE the Chief Innovations Officer, Professor and Vice President of Cancer Services at John Theurer Cancer Center describes the breast cancer prevention trial.

Dr. Pecora says in an epidemiology study involving over 14,000 women, the use of tobacco was associated with bad outcomes and increased risk of cancers (not just lung cancers). Somewhat surprisingly, and in contradiction to prior reports, moderate alcohol use was not found to be associated with the incidence or the severity of cancer in this particular study. Dr. Pecora says the takeaway message is that smoking is probably never good and that some alcohol may not be bad.
