The test was designed to address patient preferences and does not require a preparation, time off work, changes in diet or medication, and can be administered by the patient in his or her own home.

After the patient receives the kit and administers the test it can be mailed via UPS back to the lab that requested it, says Berger. The physician and the patient can also access a 24-hour call line if they need any assistance.

The test has resulted in an increase in CRC screening, says Beger. Sixty percent of the patients that use this test have never been screened before.
