Barrett's esophagus, a complication of gastroesophageal reflux disease, is a diagnosis that is becoming more and more common, Chak explains. However, accurate methods to identify who is most likely to develop the condition are lacking. Additionally, the availability of screening tools is an unmet need.

These are areas being developed in the field, Chak adds.
