Dr. Teresa Woodruff from Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Discusses Oncofertility Insurance Coverage

Teresa K. Woodruff, PhD, Thomas J. Watkins Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology, chief, Division of Fertility Preservation, director, The Oncofertility Consortium, director, The Institute for Women’s Health Research, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, discusses the reimbursement issues that accompany oncofertility treatment.

For men insurance coverage is not a large concern because sperm banking is relatively cheap and is generally reimbursed. Women usually have a more difficult time receiving reimbursement because the procedure can be more expensive. This changes from state to state and is something you can inquire about with your provider before treatment.

Woodruff founded the Oncofertility Consortium, an organization that focuses on the fertility of cancer survivors, this organization addresses complex healthcare issues and can help patients understand the costs and benefits of oncofertility treatment.
