Joan Such Lockhart, PhD, RN, AOCN, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Duquesne University School of Nursing, discusses resources currently available to help strengthen the oncology training of nurses, including the Oncology Nursing Society’s (ONS) Educator Resource Finder, a subscription-based, online portal where faculty can access materials and case studies for use in teaching.

Lockhart and colleagues conducted a survey of oncology education needs, and their findings have been used in the development of the ONS center. Additional research on delivering this content more broadly is needed, however. With growing numbers of survivors, many of them older, all nurses will need a thorough understanding of oncology treatment and care to meet patient needs.
