Angelo Fama, MD, Division of Hematology, Mayo Clinic, discusses a case control study of the GB Virus-C (GBV-C) infection and the risk of lymphoma.
According to Fama, after several studies it was demonstrated that the GBV-C infection is replicated in the B and T cells.
After the case-controlled study, it was shown that there was an association between GBV-C and risk for each major lymphoma subtype excluding Hodgkin lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), states Fama.
