Many patients with cancer need assistance with paying for their treatment, says Klein, and there is a wide range of assistance available. The biggest challenge is aligning the patient needs and the availability of help, Klein adds.

For example, drug manufacturers can help some patients on insurance in the form of a copay card or a coupon. If a patient is insured through a government program such as Medicaid, the Patient Access Network Foundation can cover the deductibles, copays, and make sure patients have enough financial resources to complete their treatment.
