Minimally invasive surgical approaches, just as laparoscopy and robotic, benefit the patient in their long-term treatment, says Fleshman.

Patients who undergo minimally invasive surgery can receive chemotherapy sooner and have less down time and immune suppression. They also experience less pain, require fewer narcotics, and have less of stress response to the operation, explains Fleshman.
