Nucera says in the past year, it was discovered that less than 2% of the human genome is encoded for protein. This means that the noncoding region transcribes the majority of the genome.
As a new field, physicians are investigating the role of RNA in thyroid cancer. Nucera says he is attempting to discover the regulatory effect of noncoding RNA in thyroid cancer. There is also suspicion that BRAFV600E interplays with the RNA.
