Dr. Volpe Discusses the Management of Localized Kidney Cancer

Alessandro Volpe, MD, University of Eastern Piedmont Hospital, Maggiore Della Carita Hospital, Novara, Italy, discusses the management of locally advanced kidney cancer.

The management of localized kidney cancer has significantly changed over the last few years, says Volpe. The standard of care for these patients is surgery, and when possible, nephron-sparing surgery.

Volpe says that many of the tumors end up being benign or very low risk, so active surveillance may be a suitable option for these patients.
