Stacy Tessler Lindau, MD, MA, outlines the multifaceted design of the Bionic Breast project. Bionic Breast is a portfolio of research that includes an NIH- and NCI-funded trial that aims to enroll 8 patients over the course of 5 years. Eligible patients are women undergoing bilateral mastectomy to treat or prevent cancer at the University of Chicago. Patients will serve as their own controls in the study; one breast will receive a neuroprosthetic implant, and the other will not.
