Exploring the Rationale Behind University of Chicago’s Bionic Breast Program

Stacy Tessler Lindau, MD, MA, provides that rationale for initiating the Bionic Breast program at the University of Chicago. The goal of the program is to restore sensation and ultimately full breast functionality following mastectomy for patients with breast cancer. Lindau notes that many women who undergo mastectomy lose all sensation and often experience chronic pain in the breast area.
