Outlining the Goals of University of Chicago’s Bionic Breast Program

Stacy Tessler Lindau, MD, MA, outlines the aims and some design characteristics of the Bionic Breast project at University of Chicago. She notes that the project is patient-centric and includes a patient advisory board that will collaborate with investigators throughout the project’s duration. She adds that one of the primary goals of the project is to raise awareness of research gaps that exist in terms of understanding the neurophysiology of women's breasts after mastectomy. The knowledge gained in the program can be used to improve outcomes for women with breast cancer who undergo mastectomy.
