Dana Monroe, RN, OCN®, BSN from San Francisco Oncology Associates discusses ipilimumab's side effects.
Monroe says ipilimumab's side effects are unusual and more immune related. The drug causes the patient's immune system to go after the cancer, so in that way it can affect other organs in the body. Side effects can include rash, severe cases of colitis, and the drug can cause the immune system to attack the liver. Monroe says ipilimumab is an interesting drug that is unlike chemotherapy.
