Clinical trials focused on immunotherapy and vaccines that are currently ongoing are very intriguing potential treatment options for patients with cervical cancer, Beddoe explains. This would also be particularly beneficial for patients in underdeveloped countries, where cervical cancer is the most common cancer among women. Additionally, it is the prime cause of mortality for reproductive-age women in some of these developing countries, she adds.

While some of the technology available in the United States is not yet available in some of these other areas, it is an active area of research, she says.
