Dr. Giorgio Scagliotti from the University of Turin Discusses the Future of Multiple Gene Profiles

Giorgio V. Scagliotti, MD, PhD, head of the Thoracic Oncology Unit, Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences, University of Turin, San Luigi Hospital, Orbassano, Italy, believes that in the near future it will be possible to systematically investigate multiple genes to establish the full role of a pathway in the tumor.

The DNA repair protein ERCC1 is being describes as a paradigm for the entire DNA repair process, Scagliotti explains, however, that a single gene is not ample to mirror the entire DNA repair mechanism. Examining the full profile of several genes will provide better information about how to treat the patients properly and their cytotoxic profiles.
