Multidisciplinary Care Across Nodular and Diffuse TGCT

TGCT patients navigate delayed diagnoses and complex choices; expert teams align surgery and systemic therapy early to reduce recurrence and improve trust.

The faculty describe TGCT care as shared, multidisciplinary care and patients often arrive after a long journey before reaching a clinician with TGCT expertise. Nodular disease in critical areas such as the hand carries higher recurrence rates and can prompt consideration of systemic therapy. For anyone with diffuse disease, whether treatment naive or treatment experienced, one panelist has at minimum a conversation about systemic therapy before operating, because recurrence is not uncommon even after a well-executed operation. The faculty favor discussing medical therapy with any patient who shows interest and note that approaches would have differed 5 years ago and may differ again in 5 years, making a multidisciplinary team essential.
