Gustavo Olivera, PhD, from 21st Century Oncology, discusses an analysis of a radiation oncology registry.

Olivera says that often times, the radiation therapy that is planned differs from what is actually delivered. This analysis set out to look at this deviation in every patient and every fraction in 21st Century Oncology’s network. Approximately 4,000 patients were analyzed.

This analysis found planning target volume mean dose deviations of more than 10 % for 1.4% of the Fx in abdominal cases, 0.06% for breast, 0.8% for lung and mediastinum, 0.4% for pelvis, 0.6% for prostate, 0% of the head and neck.

These findings, in addition to other finds from this large analysis, can be used later for adaptive treatment, Olivera says.
