Since robotic surgery is still quite new, there is a learning curve, states Kaouk. It is important for physicians to be comfortable performing this surgery.

However, once a physician is able to conduct this surgery, any tumor that is small and localized will be a good candidate for robotic partial nephrectomy, explains Kaouk.
