Edith A. Perez, MD, deputy director, Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center, Jacksonville, Florida, believes adjuvant therapy for patients with breast cancer is continuously getting better.
Two main areas of improvement exist that she believes are critical for continued improvement. The first is the identification of patients that will benefit the most from treatment and using that information to deliver the best care. Accurate treatment selection will minimize missed opportunities and over-treatment. Secondly she feels that new agents need to be introduced into the adjuvant setting in order to improve disease free survival.
