Edgardo Santos, MD, FACP, FASCO, of Starling Oncology, tells Wade Iams, MD, MSCI, of Tennessee Oncology, what he tells patients to expect over the longer term from subcutaneous amivantamab plus lazertinib in EGFR-mutated advanced non–small cell lung cancer, noting that COPERNICUS is still ongoing. He expects the regimen to become standard, pointing to 3 changes from MARIPOSA: fewer administration-related reactions with a single day of steroid, lower rates of venous thromboembolism with prophylactic anticoagulation, and less rash with the COCOON regimen. Dr Santos says median overall survival is not yet known and that he is careful to tell patients so. Asked how closely the trial population matches his own clinic, he says the pragmatic design increases his confidence, citing broader enrollment by age, greater racial and ethnic diversity, and the allowance of 1 cycle of chemotherapy while next-generation sequencing results are pending.
