The FDA has awarded a $600,000 grant for a phase I clinical trial of a genetically reprogrammed herpes simplex virus in young cancer patients with relapsed non-central nervous system (CNS) solid tumors such as sarcomas and neuroblastomas.

A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials revealed treatment-related fatalities were 1.5 times higher for combination treatment with Avastin (bevacizumab) and chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone

According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, there are 19,000 new cases of primary brain cancer diagnosed each year. The five-year survival rate is around 30%. Brain cancers can strike all ages, and are the leading cause of cancer deaths in children under the age of 20.
