Beyond guiding therapy, specific molecular patterns also provide prognostic insight. For example, while the BRAF V600E mutation is common in papillary thyroid cancer, the presence of co-mutations—such as TERT promoter alterations alongside BRAF V600E—is associated with more aggressive disease biology and poorer outcomes compared with BRAF-mutant tumors alone. These combined genomic alterations can influence disease progression and clinical decision-making. Integrating comprehensive molecular testing into routine evaluation allows clinicians not only to optimize targeted treatment strategies but also to better stratify risk and counsel patients regarding expected disease course.
